This detailed study casts new light on a hugely significant political event which was arguably, a turning point in Welsh history.
- Dafydd Wigley
He writes with fluidity, panache and conviction and, in so doing, captures perfectly the period and events under review.
- Lord Elystan Morgan
Dr Wyn Thomas should be commended for this book, which is destined to be the definitive appraisal of an important event in the recent political history of the United Kingdom.
- Lord Peter Brooke
Mae'r gyfrol hon ar ei hyd yn llenwi bwlch amlwg yn ein hanesyddiaeth, yn eithriadol o gyflawn a chytbwys ac yn deg ei barn. Mae'n llwyddo i edrych tu hwnt i fytholeg a'r emosiynau tanbaid hynny oedd mor ynghlwm wrth y broses o foddi Capel Celyn. Llunnir cyfan mewn rhyddiaith glir a chryno, a chynhwysir nifer o ffotograffau byw, perthnasol o fewn yr astudiaeth.
Bydd cynnwys y gyfrol hon yn para'n hynod werthfawr am flynyddoedd lawer, a bydd o ddiddordeb a defnydd mawr i bawb sydd yn ymddiddori yng nghwrs hanes Cymru a gwleidyddiaeth ein gwlad yn ystod cyfnod arbennig o bwysig a ffurfiannol.
- J. Graham Jones, Y Cymro
Such is the detail and densely woven texture of this important volume that even a review of some length must fail to do justice to its many facets. It deserves a wide readership, and will be essential reading for those seriously concerned with the history of the Tryweryn episode, with the history of Merioneth, and, indeed, with the wider history of Wales during the second half of the twentieth century and beyond. The author deserves warm congratulation on his achievement.
- Gruffydd Aled Williams
The level of scholarship is high, and the research is spread across a wide spectrum of sources. The list of newspapers alone runs to 33 titles. The many interviewees range from activists to members of teh Westminster Cabinet. The exhaustiveness of the research makes itself felt throughout, flowing into the five substantial chapters and conclusion that make up the main text.
- Adam Somerset, IWA
I can't recommend this book highly enough to anyone interested in modern Welsh history and politics.
- Peter Barnes, Sibrydion magazine
The book is wonderful
- Vaughan Roderick, Sunday Supplement, Radio Wales
Thomas' work stands clear of creating an idealised, nationalist narrative of the history, a credit to his commitment to impartiality.
Thomas is thorough and comprehensive in his approach throughout the book, seeking to understand the why and the how.
