Meredydd Evans

Dr Meredydd Evans was born in 1919 and grew up in Tanygrisiau. After leaving school at 14 he worked as a shop keeper, before continuing his education at Clwyd College, Rhyl and Bangor College University. He worked then in Harlech College before working as a journalist for Y Cymro, a lecturer at Princeton University, USA, and then the Department of External Studies in Bangor. He was Head of Light Entertainment withthe BBC before returning to Adult Education in Cardiff University. Mered Evans and his wife Phillis retired and moved to Cwm Ystwyth. Both were key to the Welsh entertainment world for over half a century. Through their hard work and enthusiasm, they have made an amazing contribution to the tradition of folk singing, the Welsh language and to Welsh culture as a whole.
