John Aitchison

Professor Emeritus at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, joined the staff of the Department of Geography (as it was then in 1967). He established the Rural Surveys Research unit and co-founded the highly-regarded International Centre for Protected Landscapes. Recipient of the Prince of Wales award for work on the "Common Lands of Wales". John Aitchison has written extensively on the spatial patterns of the Welsh language
