New edition of Condry's classic guidebook to Wales

This month sees the publication of William (Bill) Condry’s original Exploring Wales, which was first published in 1970. This new edition retains Condy’s superlative prose but includes an introduction by his long-time friend Neville Jones and hopes to reach an increasingly receptive audience.

Neville Jones said:

“Bill was an environmentalist before the term became so common to us. He hated the destruction of wild places and the loss of beauty that was so noticeable during his lifetime. Long before science provided us with proof of the harm we have caused by our greedy short-sightedness – and the benefits we can obtain from living in harmony with nature – Bill instinctively understood that a sea change in society’s values was imperative.”

The book is a favourite by Ornithologist, presenter and author Iolo Williams, who said:

“I’m delighted to see the late, great Bill Condry’s book, Exploring Wales, being thrust into the limelight once more. Bill was an unequalled naturalist and wordsmith with an uncanny ability to describe the natural world as it unfolded around him. With this re-issue of an old classic by one of his dearest friends, his wonderfully descriptive writing will now reach a new, appreciative audience.”

Exploring Wales is both a tribute to the early pioneers of Bill Condry’s generation and a call for a new type of society living in harmony with ecological principles.
