This is the remarkable story of Barbara Davies who left Liverpool during the Second World War as a four-year-old evacuee.
Liverpool saw one of the the most extensive air-raids ever seen in Britain - the Blitz of May 1941 when thousands of people were killed in Liverpool during attacks by the Luftwaffe. Barbara was rescued from the explosion that killed 164 people in Ernest Brown school, before moving to the Welsh countryside during the war.
Such was the welcome she received in Talgarreg, Ceredigion, that she decided to stay in Wales, with John and Rachel Davies, Pantglas. This book gives a wonderful picture of rural Ceredigion after the war, with vivid descriptions of old farming customs of the area, from slaughtering the pig to coping with rations.
The book also provides warm and fond portrayals of some of the area's characters by a woman who will be ever grateful to the neighbourly and welcoming community of Talgarreg.
