Gwyn Thomas
Born in Tanygrisiau, Gwynedd, Gwyn Thomas was brought up in Blaenau Ffestiniog. He studied at the University of Wales, Bangor and Jesus College, Oxford. In his career, Gwyn Thomas published 16 volumes of poetry, worked as a literary and cultural critic and also translated the Mabinogi into English. He was Emeritus Professor of Welsh at Bangor University. In 2006, he was appointed National Poet of Wales. Along with illustrator Margaret Jones, Thomas won three Tir na n-Og awards for their work. Professor Gwyn Thomas died in 2016.
