The Soothsayer was an important part of Welsh life until relatively recently; indeed, for many centuries, he held an important position in society in his role as a doctor and councellor. But he was condemned severly by the religious people of the last century, and little was done, since then, to understand him and his work. What were his secrets? Was he a healer? Was he able to predict the future, or to find things that were lost? Was he an astronomer, or a herbalist? Could he communicate with the dead? Were his intentions good or bad? This books attempts to answer these questions, mainly based on the history of two Soothsayers - John Harries of Cwrtycadno, and the Soothsayer of Denbighshire. Their divine learnings are shown to have roots as far as Egypt. What they did was not trickery - there was a meaning and a purpose for it all.
