The book had me gripped from beginning to end. It was an interesting mix of a mystery story that turns into an elegy for a lost way of life. I also found the way Lilla's own story is woven into the stories she tells of others fascinating for the questions it poses about home and belonging and what they mean to us and how history and social change makes its mark on individuals.
