Gareth Price has produced an admirably readable account of three exhilirating decades in Welsh broadcasting, an account which tracks his rise to the Controller's office of BBC Wales. His story is full of absorbing insights into BBC culture, and along the way he profiles some of the biggest names in the business. It also raises pertinent questions about the role and status of the BBC in today's Wales.

No one is more qualified than Price to reveal the inside story of Welsh broadcasting. In 1964 he took his first tentative steps as BBC radio current affairs producer. During the best part of three decades in Welsh broadcasting he rose to Head of Programmes and Controller BBC Wales. He is never reluctant to share his experiences. He is forthright throughout. His 'eminently readable account' records the most exciting and innovative period in Welsh broadcasting, in both languages. This is not only 'an admirably readable account'; it is also authentic, written by an insider. Price could claim, like Max Boyce, 'I know, 'cos I was there!'

"This account of three significant decades in Welsh broadcasting told by Gareth Price who worked for twenty-six years at BBC Wales, both as producer and Head of Programmesa and ultimately Controller, does exactly what it promises in its title, chronicling the life and times of hte characters working in front and behind the microphones and television cameras of the late 60s, 70s and 80s, as well as recounting the culture and climate of the corporation itself. Price's voice is coherent and engaging, ferrying the reader happily through many sea changes in Welsh radio and television.
