Harold Carter

Harold Carter is a Welsh Human Geographer and previous Professor Emeritus at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. He was a research assistant at Aberystwyth in 1950 and in 1969 got Gregynog Professor of Human Geography, which he held until 1983. From 1983 until his retirement in1986 he was the Director of the Department of Geography, Aberystwyth. During his career he was Visiting Professor and subsequently Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Cincinnati and many more. For his writings on the geography of Wales, including its language and culture, he was made a member of the Gorsedd of Bards at the Llanrwst Eisteddfod in 1990. In 1977 he published four city formation theories in his book "The Study of Urban Geography". In 2011 he became a member of the Learned Society of Wales.
