Gwen Watkins

Gwen Watkins and her late husband, the poet Vernon Watkins, were among the few who could claim a close and lasting friendship with Dylan Thomas and Caitlin. Vernon Watkins was part of the brilliant young Swansea artists in the 1930's called 'the Kardomah Boys', after the Castle Street cafe where they used to meet. The couple met whilst both were working in Bletchley Park during World War Two. Dylan Thomas was supposed to be the best man at the wedding, but failed to show up.
