Daniel Owen
One of Wales' foremost nineteenth century. He was born in 1836, in Mold. The year after his birth saw a family tragedy with his father and two of his brothers drowning in a mining accident, which left the family in poverty. He started work as an apprentice with a tailor, and after a period there, and at Bala College, he returned to work in the shop and preach on Sundays. He wrote many Welsh novels, which both respected and critcised the moral Welsh Victorian way of life.
