Hywel Harries
Hywel Harries was an art teacher by profession. He studied at Llanelli Art School before joining the RAF at the start of the Second World War. After being released from the RAF he studied at Cardiff Technical College. Alongside his teaching career, he was a practising artist, finding equal delight in serious painting, illustration and cartooning for magazines and newspapers such as the Cambrian News, Y Goleuad, Cristion and Y Faner. He established Ceredigion Art Society in 1963 and served as Vice-president of the Royal Cambrian Academy, as Chairman of the Art and Craft Committee of the Council of the National Eisteddfod and as Chairman of the North Wales Federation of Art Groups. Hywel Harries died in 1990.
