Islwyn Ffowc Elis
Islwyn Ffowc Elis was born in Wrexham and grew up in Glyn Ceiriog. He studied at the University of Wales Bangor and Aberystwyth. During the Second World War he was a conscientious objector and he started writing poems and stories. He wan the prose medal at the 1951 National Eisteddfod. He was a Presbyterian minister from 1950. He was a pioneering author, and introduced totally new writing genres to the Welsh reader, including science fiction. He wrote a drama, hundreds of articles and short stories, as well as the many novels, and his work has been translated into German, English, Irish and Italian. He devoted a lot of time to politics and was a prominent campaigner for the Party of Wales. Islwyn Ffowc Elis died in 2004.
