‘Definitive historical analysis' of turbulent time in Wales back in print

Dr Wyn Thomas’ highly praised analysis of a turbulent time in Welsh history, Hands Off Wales, has been reprinted by Y Lolfa in a new paperback edition. The book addresses the campaign of militant activism – inspired by ‘Tryweryn’ and the Investiture – which Wales witnessed between 1963 and 1969.

Published originally as a hardback by Gomer in 2013, the book received recognition by historians and those interested in the history of Wales. The celebrated historian, Dr John Davies noted the importance of the study’s publication: “This meticulously researched account will be the ‘established history’.”

Dr Thomas demonstrates that the unprecedented period of violence was fuelled by both the contentious flooding of Cwm Tryweryn and crucially, the failure of Plaid Cymru to prevent the valley’s drowning through constitutional means. The book contains revealing interviews with the major figures involved in organising the militancy which became synonymous with the era, as well as those trying to stop it.
