R. Elwyn Hughes
R. Elwyn Hughes was educated in his local school, Maesyfed and in St. Catrin's College, Cambridge where she was a scholar in Natural Science. He was a Reader in Nutriant Biochemistry in the Higher Technical College Wales (Cardiff) until his retirement in 1989. He was elected as a member of FIBiol. He worked as Director for the Society of Promoting Education of Foods (London). He specialised in vitamin C and fibre in foods. He was a great influence from the 1960s onwards in Science through the medium of Welsh. In 1983 he was honoured with Urdd Derwydd in the Gorsedd for his contribution to Science and the Welsh Language. R. Elwyn Hughes died in 2005.
