Fflur Dafydd to go on Iowa International Writing Program, USA
Two months after being selected at the Hay Festival as the Oxfam Emerging Writer of the Year for her first novel in English, Twenty Thousand Saints, Fflur Dafydd has had yet another feather in her bow by being chosen to participate in the Iowa International Writing Program at Iowa University, the US' premier centre for creative writing, which was established in 1967. She will be in residence for six weeks, starting on 1 September. Fflur will be working there on her next novel in English, because the Program's main purpose is to provide time and a congenial setting for creative literary work. However, she will also have the opportunity to teach Creative Writing on the course; give and attend talks; be invited to readings; meet with well-known and emerging US writers; participate in radio and TV interviews broadcast in Iowa City and the University communities; make visits to other parts of the USA, and get general exposure to the currents of US literature. I'm sure Fflur will be ready after a very busy spring and summer for some quiet reflection and creative downtime, should she be likely to get any at Iowa!
